Art and Design provides students with opportunities to develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures in practical, critical and contextual forms.
The specification comprises two units at AS and two units at A2. Students should be introduced to a variety of experiences employing a range of media, processes and techniques appropriate to the chosen area of study:
Students will produce practical and critical/contextual work in one or more areas including painting, drawing, mixed-media, textiles, sculpture, land art, printmaking and photography: lens-based and/or light-based media.
It is recommended that pupils have at least a C grade GCSE in Art or Design. If not it is advisable to bring a small portfolio of Artwork to demonstrate skills.
Unit 1 – Coursework Portfolio
Of overall AS, 25% of A Level No time limit
Portfolio of work set and marked by the centre and moderated by AQA.
Unit 2 – Externally Set Assignment
Of overall AS, 25% of A Level Supervised time 5 hours 80 marks
Work produced will be marked by the centre and moderated by AQA.
Unit 3 – Personal Investigation
Externally set assignment.
Of A Level No time limit 80 marks
A level Art and Design provides a suitable foundation for the study of Art or design in a range of higher education courses or direct entry into employment in the creative world of Art, Illustration, Film, Photography etc.
